Mathias Mogge

Mathias Mogge was appointed Secretary General of Welthungerhilfe in September 2018. The agricultural engineer and environmental scientist (MSc) has worked for the organisation in various positions since 1998, most recently as Programme Director since March 2010. From 2005 to 2010, he was head of the specialist group "Knowledge, Innovation, Consulting", responsible for knowledge management, technical and conceptual consulting for the foreign programmes, representation of Welthungerhilfe in specialist committees, the development of strategic sector projects and the development of technical strategic guidelines.

From 2001 to 2005, as Regional Director in Bamako (Mali), he was responsible for the development and management of the programmes in Mali, Burkina Faso, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Before that, he was responsible for project work in Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan as Country Group Spokesperson and Programme Manager from 1998 to 2001.

After his studies in 1993, he began practical development cooperation with the German Development Service as a development worker in the Natural Resource Management Project in Kutum, Darfur region/Sudan.

Mathias Mogge has been active on the honorary board of the Association of German Development and Humanitarian Organisations (VENRO) since 2013. In December 2021, he was elected chairman in a dual leadership. Since 2018, he has also been a member of the board of trustees of the Aid by Trade Foundation.
