The Seminar für Ländliche Entwicklung (Center for Rural Development) is an institution of the Humboldt University of Berlin. It has four areas of work: study, training, research and consulting. For 55 years, university graduates have been able to qualify for a wide range of specialist courses at SLE with the help of a certified German-language study program for the field of international cooperation. In addition, the SLE offers English-language training courses for international experts on topics that are assigned to the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. SLE also conducts research on rural development issues, sustainable resource management, climate adaptation and methods of knowledge management. SLE is happy to pass on its expertise to developmental policy organizations. It advises universities in Latin America and Africa when they want to create SLE-style study programs. The SLE sees itself as a junction between science and practice that elaborates problem-solving on developmental questions and provides the tools for this purpose. In order to properly grasp the increasingly complex problems and to develop appropriate solutions, the SLE forms inter- and transdisciplinary teams and develops the solutions with a multidimensional understanding at the national, regional and local levels.
